llysyfrandamThe Pembrokeshire Angling Association held its annual competition at Llys y Fran Reservoir and Adrian Batty was the top angler as he caught four trout whose combined weight was 6lbs 5ozs and left the other 27 anglers trailing in his wake.

Club secretary Steve Esmond was delighted by the turn-out as competitors fished the reservoir from 9am to 5pm.

“It is one of our best turn-outs for some time,” he said, “and the good weather played its part in terms of numbers, although there were fewer fish caught than in some other years.

“We are particularly pleased by the fact that five youngsters took part because they are our future, and three of them caught smashing fish that they were taking home to eat.”

The competition was organised by Ian Harries, Paul Austin and Martin Lewis; and Ian was pleased with the way that things had gone.

“We are delighted that Mr Neville Price-Jones of County Sports came along to present the prizes, which he had, as usual, generously donated to the event. The Llys y Fran staff, led by manager John Sampson, have helped with the weighing of the fish and it has been an excellent competition.”

The Gwyther Shield for the best junior angler went to Steven Jones, who caught two fish for a combined total of 3lbs 2ozs whilst the newly-donated Ronnie Narbett Cup was presented to another junior in George Cole for his rainbow trout of 1lb 11.5 ozs, which was the heaviest individual fish caught be a junior angler.

Neville Price-Jones was delighted by the response to the day and said afterwards,

“It is always a pleasure to present the prizes for the Pembrokeshire Angling Association because they not only fish but maintain the river banks and look after wildlife.

“They are also eager to introduce people with a disability to enjoy the river banks.
