Great News: The Sewin have started showing themselves in Beat One from the Mill area up to the Horseshoe Pool at St Catherine`s Bridge. Adrian Batty brought a fine specimen of over 5lb to the net recently (he would not share what fly, but he was spotted pinching a couple of Dunkelds off Jinks!!) Hopefully the drop of rain combined with the approaching high tides will bring in the main run and we will hear them leaping in all the pools. A few salmon have been sighted so come...

Clive’s catch report: As mentioned in the recent report, I got a lovely autumn salmon of 12lb from Nant Y Coy on Friday 28th September. I caught it on a size 3, 8oz, spinner. I dropped the spinner just upstream of the big rocks and let it sink for a couple of seconds. When I started the retrieve I tightened into the fish and it was game on. Autumn 2012 Fishing Report

As the close season is fast approaching there’s still time to get some last minute fishing in. And judging by the latest reports it could be well worth getting on the water. Despite the never ending vagaries of the weather with river levels up and down like a yo-yo, there is a good stock of both salmon and sewin in the Western. During the last fortnight, anecdotal reports suggest that over 40 sewin have been caught and upwards of 5 salmon, one of which was a double figure fish.
