Recent Catch Reports
It has been a good season so far for the fly at night with little rain (apart from the odd wet spell) conditions have been great for night fishing and the sea trout are being caught through out our whole river.
The biggest reported so far is a sewin caught by Carl Lowndes of 6lb 4oz who has also caught a grilse of about 5lb. And his brother Mark landed 5 sewin in one night. Paul Narbertt has landed a personal best sewin of 6lb. Simon Derec has had a brace of fish between 4 and 6lb. Paul Nicholas has had a grilse of 5lb. Steve Brown has landed over 20 sewin so far up to 4lb. Adrian Batty has had over 20 as well; again fish up to 4lb. Eric Williams has had a brace of 3 and 4lb.
There are a lot of big brown trout coming to the net too. My biggest was over 16 inches long and another of 15 inches both falling to the fly just before dark (I have also had 10 sewin in July but all are about 1lb, the biggies don`t like my fly!).
Nigel Mayhew landed 7 fish in one night and said he should have caught 20!
There have been a lot of fish jumping in the night this season and it has not been uncommon to see 7 or more fish show. Maybe it is because the river has been high the last 2 years and they did not show as much.
Top fly this month has been the good old Dunkeld with the Alexandra catching up. Various dry patterns for the brown trout up to a big sedge before dark.
