Pembrokeshire Rivers Trust have been making good use of the facilities at our Angling Centre in Treffgarne. They have been running a series of courses for local schools. A very nice thank-you was recently received:

Dear Sirs

On behalf of Pembrokeshire Rivers Trust and all the schools which took part in the PRT Community Education programme this year, I am writing to thank you for allowing us to use the PAA site at St Catherine’s bridge and the excellent log cabin and facilities at Treffgarne Angling Centre.

A total of 219 children from 9 schools took part in our Otter & Education project between September 2012 and September 2013, which involved a classroom session and two field trips, one of which was to a river location. We brought two of the schools to the PAA site at St Catherine’s Bridge site and 7 to the Treffgarne site. We are extremely lucky to be able to have such a safe and manageable environment to bring the children to and they truly enjoyed the visits, as demonstrated by comments in the feedback forms received from the schools following the project.

The off-road coach parking, the cabin and the fishing platform all enable us to organise interactive learning at Treffgarne, such as Riverfly identification, habitat drawings, and wildlife observation. We were very lucky with wildlife sightings including occasional glimpses of herons and kingfishers, many butterflies including common blue, peacock, red admirals and speckled wood, bird sounds including gold crests, willow warblers, chiffchaffs, jays, robins, ravens etc etc, many insects and a huge range of trees and wildflowers, including the Viper’s Bugloss (which unfortunately is in decline in your car park area!) On a couple of occasions we found slow worms beneath the black reptile mats – a fantastic wildlife encounter for the children. All of these factors helped to make our project extremely successful. Overleaf are some photos taken during our field trips.

Thank you again, and should we be successful with our current project sponsorship requests we very much hope you will allow us to use the facilities again in the future!

Yours faithfully
Jo Cunningham
